Fields - Set Field Type

When creating a field, the field properties need to be set. The most important property is Field Type as this determines the kind of information that can be entered into the field.

The input possibilities of each available field type are detailed below:

Text

Use a Text field when you want to enter text. Only un-formatted text can be entered.

Number

Use a Number field when you want to enter numbers. You cannot enter units, like 20 hours or 1.5 kg. If a field represents a certain measure, the unit has to be known to the users.

Decimal Number
Use a Decimal field when you want to be able to enter decimal numbers. Use of letters characters other than numbers is not possible with this field type.

Yes/No

Use a yes/no field when you want to use a boolean, such as yes/no, true/false or larger/smaller. In other words: where two values are mutually exclusive. The name of the field should be set-up to be a question to which only Yes or No can be answered.

Date

Use a Date field when you want to enter dates, e.g. an end date for a process.

List

Using this field type you can create simple lists from which users can select a value. When defining this field you can enter the desire values in the field properties.

Relationship

A Relationship field is a special case. Such a field can only be filled with the value from a pre-defined relationship category. When a field of type Relationship is filled in an actual relationship will be made between the topic filled in the field value and the topic to which the field set belongs. This relationship will be shown in the relationship screen with a light blue background. It can then be provided with a fixed characteristic which must be selected beforehand in the field properties.

Relation-List

The field value of a field of type Relation-List can only be filled with a subtopic of a predefined parent topic.

Internal File

The field value of an Internal File field can only be filled in via a selection screen that grants access to the network of the logged in user. Using this screen a reference can be made to a file. This selected file will be included in the Mavim database as an Internal File.

Note: For the fields of type Text, Number, Decimal and List it is possible to enter values to a maximum of 32.000 characters.
