How to add add-ins to a Word template in the online environment
This article explains how to edit a Word template (.dotm file) to include add-ins and upload the updated template back into the Mavim Online environment.
1. Copy the Word template
-
From the Mavim Online environment, copy the .dotm file to your local environment.
2. Open and enable content
-
Open the copied .dotm file in Microsoft Word.
-
When prompted, click Enable content.
3. Insert add-ins into the template
-
In Word, go to the Insert tab.
-
If you are adding the MavimStart position, insert it as a bookmark.
-
For all other fields, follow these steps:
-
Select Quick Parts > Field.
-
In the list under Field names, select MergeField.
-
In Field name, type the name of the field you want to add.
-
Example:
<Mavim_1#Title>
adds the Title field.
-
-
Adjust the size and place the field where you want it in the template.
-
👉 Use the field table below for all possible fields that Mavim Manager can publish into Word documents:
4. Save the template
-
Close and save the .dotm file. The added fields are now stored in the template.
5. Upload the modified template back to Mavim
-
In Mavim Manager, click the slide-out bar at the top center of the screen.
-
Select File Transfer > Upload.
-
Choose the modified .dotm file. It will appear in the TempDisk in Mavim Cloud.
-
In Mavim, go to Tools > File explorer
-
Drag the uploaded .dotm file into the correct folder:
-
S:\Mavim\Wordthemes\...
-
Make sure the modified file has the same name as the original and confirm overwrite.
-
6. Test the template
-
Generate a Word publication using the updated .dotm file.
-
The new add-ins should now appear in the document.
Notes
-
If the file name is different, Mavim will not recognize the template. Always keep the original name.
-
Only the MavimStart position is inserted as a bookmark. All other fields must be added using MergeFields.
