How to add, modify, and delete relationships in a Visio flowchart

Target audience: Mavim users working with Visio flowcharts who need to manage relationships between topics.

Purpose: This article explains how to add existing or new relationships, modify them, and delete them in a Visio chart. All changes are saved in Mavim when you save the chart.

Overview

In a Visio flowchart, you can:
  • Add relationships that already exist in Mavim.
  • Create new relationships using the Mavim Flow Chart Stencil.
  • Modify or delete relationships directly in the chart.

Add an existing relationship

Relationships stored in the Mavim database can be added to your Visio chart.
  • See Show existing relationships in chart for detailed steps.

Add a new relationship

The Mavim Flow Chart Stencil in Visio displays standard relationship categories.
  1. Select the relationship type
    • In the stencil, choose the required category (e.g., Who).
  2. Drag the relationship onto the topic
    • Drag the selected relationship type onto the topic where you want to create the relationship.
  3. Position the topic
    • Drag the topic to the desired location in the chart.
  4. Choose the related topic
    • A dialog box opens. Select the topic you want to link to the chosen relationship category.

Delete a relationship

  1. Open the Mavim relationships screen.
  2. Select the relationship you want to delete.
  3. Press DELETE on your keyboard.
    • The deleted relationship will no longer appear in Visio.

Modify a relationship

You can adjust a Whereto/Wherefrom relationship between process steps:
  1. Select the relationship in the chart.
  2. Drag one end to another topic or to a different connection point on the same topic.

Important notes

  • Saving the Visio chart also saves all relationship changes in Mavim.
  • Deleted relationships are permanently removed from the chart and database.
  • Ensure you have the correct permissions to edit relationships.
