How to change font settings in the Description screen
Target audience:
Users editing content in the Description screen who want to customize font appearance and formatting.
Core purpose/goal:
To explain how to adjust font settings such as typeface, size, color, and effects using both the context menu and toolbars.
Steps to change font settings
- Place your cursor in the Description screen.
- (Optional) Select the text you want to format.
- Right-click and choose Font from the context menu.
You can also use the Description Screen toolbars for quick access to common font settings. Options available on the toolbar are marked with an asterisk (*) below.
Font tab options
- Font*: Choose a typeface.
- Font style*: Regular, bold, italic, etc.
- Size*: Set font size.
- Font color*: Pick a color (see *Set Colors*).
- Underline style*: Choose underline type.
- Underline color: Set underline color (requires underline style).
- Effects:
- Strikethrough: Single line through text.
- Double strikethrough: Two lines through text.
- Superscript: Raised smaller text (e.g., x²).
- Subscript: Lowered smaller text (e.g., H₂O).
- Small caps: Capital letters with reduced size.
- All caps: Full-size capital letters.
- Hidden: Text is hidden unless ¶ is enabled.
- Underline words only: Underlines only the words, not spaces.
Advanced tab options
- Scale: Adjust font size proportionally.
- Spacing: Choose Normal, Expanded, or Condensed. Set point value.
- Position: Raise or lower text. Set point value.
- Kerning: Adjust spacing between characters.
- Snap to grid: Align text to a grid when exporting to Word.
Important notes
- Toolbar options offer quick access to basic formatting.
- Hidden text can be revealed using the ¶ button in the toolbar.
- Advanced settings are useful for precise layout control, especially when preparing content for export or print.
