How to configure general settings for the Description screen
Target audience:
Users who want to customize the behavior, appearance, and formatting of the Description screen.
Core purpose:
To guide users through accessing and adjusting general settings such as hyperlink behavior, measurement units, font defaults, and layout preferences.
Steps to access general settings
- Go to the Layout tab.
- Select Options from the Description Screen group.
- A settings window will appear with multiple configuration options.
Available settings and what they do
Hyperlink style and color
- Change the style and color of hyperlinks.
- These changes apply only to new hyperlinks, not existing ones.
Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink
- When enabled, users must press CTRL while clicking a hyperlink to follow it.
- Applies to all hyperlinks in the Description screen.
Show tooltip on hyperlink
- Displays a tooltip when hovering over a hyperlink.
- Useful when hyperlink text has been modified and doesn’t clearly show its destination.
Measurement unit
- Choose between centimeters or inches.
- Affects the ruler and other measurement-based settings.
- Switching units will convert and round existing values.
Tab width
- Set the spacing for tab stops in the Description screen.
Default font settings
- Configure the default font for all topics.
- Note: Changes apply to the entire database and affect all users.
Default paragraph settings
- Adjust how paragraphs are formatted in newly created topics.
- See the Paragraph section for more details.
Default page settings
- Set default page layout options for each topic.
- Refer to Page Setup for available configurations.
Important notes
- Changes to default font, paragraph, and page settings are global and affect all users.
- Hyperlink settings only apply to newly created links.
- Tooltip visibility improves navigation clarity, especially when link text is customized.
