How to copy relationships between topics in Mavim

Target audience

Mavim users who want to duplicate existing relationships between topics to save time and maintain consistency in their models.

Core purpose/goal

To explain how to copy an existing relationship from one topic and apply it to another topic.

What does copying a relationship mean?

  • Copying a relationship means taking the end point of an existing relationship and applying it to another topic.
  • The end point is relative; it depends on the direction from which you view the relationship. Keep this in mind when copying.

Steps to copy a relationship

  1. Select the source topic

    • In the Topics screen, choose the topic that contains the relationship you want to copy.
  2. Copy the relationship

    • Open the Relationships screen for the selected topic.
    • Right-click the relationship you want to copy and select Copy.
  3. Select the destination topic

    • In the Topics screen, choose the topic you want to link to.
  4. Paste the relationship

    • Open the Relationships screen for the destination topic.
    • Right-click and select Paste.

Important notes

  • The copied relationship will maintain the same category as the original.
  • Direction matters: the end point is relative to the source topic, so verify the relationship after pasting.
  • You can copy multiple relationships by selecting them before copying.
