How to couple an email address with a topic
Target audience:
Users who want to link email addresses to topics for quick access via hyperlinks.
Core purpose/goal:
To explain how to couple an email address with a topic so users can open their default email client directly from the Description or Relationships screen.
Steps to couple an email address
- In the Topics screen, select the topic you want to link to an email address.
- Go to the Edit tab or right-click the topic.
- Choose Couple Topic With > E-mail.
- In the window that appears, enter the email address.
- The application will automatically add
mailto:when you test or confirm the link.
- The application will automatically add
- Click Test to open your default email application and verify the address.
- Click OK to save the link.
Where the link appears

Description screen:
Hyperlinks to the topic will open the default email client with the address pre-filled. -
Relationships screen:
The email address appears under the With What relationship category.
Double-click the relationship to open a new email draft.
How to identify email address links
- From column: Displays External Files.
- Name column: Shows the full email address with
mailto:prefix. - You can also Edit Paths for email addresses if needed.
Important notes
- This feature is useful for linking contact points directly to topics.
- Make sure the email address is valid and accessible to intended users.
- Only one email address can be coupled per topic.
