How to couple an internet address with a topic

Target audience:
Users who want to link external websites to topics for quick access via hyperlinks.

Core purpose:
To guide users through the process of coupling an internet address (URL) with a topic so that the linked website can be opened directly from the Description or Relationships screen.


Steps to couple an internet address

  1. In the Topics screen, select the topic you want to link to a website.
  2. Go to the Edit tab or right-click the topic.
  3. Choose Couple Topic With > Internet Address.
  4. In the window that appears, enter the full URL.
    • If you don’t include http:// or https://, the application will add it automatically when you test or confirm the link.
  5. Click Test to open the URL in your default browser and verify it works.
  6. Click OK to save the link.

Where the link appears

  • In the Description screen:
    Any hyperlink to the topic will open the linked website directly.

  • In the Relationships screen:
    The internet address appears under the With What relationship category.
    Double-click the relationship to open the website.


How to identify internet address links

  • From column: Displays External Files.
  • Name column: Shows the full URL.
  • You can also Edit Paths for internet addresses if needed.

Important notes

  • This feature is useful for linking external documentation, tools, or resources.
  • Make sure the URL is accessible to all users who need it (e.g., not behind a login or firewall).
  • You can only couple one internet address per topic.
