How to create relationships between topics in Mavim

Mavim users who need to link topics to build logical connections in models, such as processes, roles, and supporting elements.

To explain the different ways to create relationships between topics in Mavim and provide step-by-step instructions for each method.


Ways to create relationships

You can create relationships in several ways:


1. In the Topics screen

  1. Select the topic you want to link from.
  2. Right-click and choose New Relationship(s).
  3. Select the relationship category (e.g., Who, Where, Whereto).
  4. Choose the topic you want to relate to.

2. In the Relationships screen

  1. Open the Relationships screen for the topic.
  2. Right-click and select New Relationship(s).
  3. Pick the relationship category.
  4. Select the topic to link.

3. In a Matrix

  • Use the Matrix view to create multiple relationships quickly.
  • This method is ideal for adding several relationships consecutively.

4. By copying and pasting topics

  1. Select a topic and copy it (CTRL+C or right-click > Copy).
  2. Navigate to the topic you want to relate to.
  3. In the Relationships screen, paste the copied topic (CTRL+V or right-click > Paste).

5. Using the Ribbon buttons

  • Go to the Modeling tab.
  • Use the Relate options to create relationships directly from the Ribbon.

Tips for creating multiple relationships

  • Hold CTRL or SHIFT to select multiple topics.
  • Click Select to confirm and create one or more relationships at once.

Important notes

  • Relationships help structure your model logically and improve navigation.
  • You can create relationships in any category, including Whereto, Who, Where, When, Why, and With What.
  • Ensure you select the correct category for clarity and consistency.
