How to edit paths for coupled files and locations

Target audience:
Users managing coupled files or locations in Mavim who need to update paths or replace files.

Core purpose:
To guide users through checking, updating, or removing paths for coupled items like Files, Network Files, Internet Addresses, and Email Addresses.


Key steps to include

Access the Edit Paths window

  1. In the Topics screen, go to the Objects section.
    • If not visible, enable it via Layout > Topics Screen Options > Objects.
  2. On External Files, right-click and select Edit Paths.

Understand the Edit Paths layout

  • The window has two tabs:
    • File tab: shows all coupled items of type File.
    • URI tab: shows all coupled items of type:
    • Network File
    • Network Location
    • Internet Address
    • Email Address

Change file

  1. On the File tab, select the file you want to replace.
  2. Click Change File.
  3. Browse to the new file and click Open.

Change path

  1. In either tab, select one or more items using CTRL or SHIFT.
  2. Click Change Path.
  3. In the dialog:
    • Shared path shows the common part of all selected paths.
    • Replace with lets you enter a new shared path.
  4. Click Browse to select the new location.
  5. Click OK to apply changes.

Remove from list

  1. In either tab, select the item(s) you want to remove.
  2. Click Remove from list.
    • This removes the relationship between the topic and the coupled file or location.

Important notes

  • The Edit Paths window highlights missing or broken links.
  • Works for all coupling types: File, Network File, Network Location, Internet Address, Email Address.
  • Removing a path deletes the relationship from the External Files tree and the Relationships screen.
