Not all shapes in the chart are activities. You can right click on a shape and select the shape type as shown below:
As you can see, a shape can be configured as a:
· Start
· Activity
· Detailed process
· Decision
· Stop
You can also assign a shape as an External document or External activity:
Note: Free shapes do not need to be assigned.
