Importing an Excel File with Parent/Child Relationships into Mavim Manager
This article desribes how to import an Excel file with a parent/child relationship into Mavim Manager.
Preparing the Excel File:
To ensure a successful import:
- When you have an Excel file like this:
- Place all main topic names under the column that will be used as the topic name (e.g.,
Job title
). - Add an extra column (e.g.,
Parent
) that refers to the ID of the parent topic. This column will be used as the Parent ID.
Import Steps:
- Upload the Excel file to the Mavim Manager environment.
- Go to Modeling → Import → Excel.
- Click the browse button (⋯) and select your Excel file.
- Click Next twice to proceed to the column selection screen.
- Select the columns you want to import as fields. In this example:
ID
,Job title
, andParent
are used for structure and will not be selected as fields.
- In the next screen:
- Set
Job title
as the Topic name. - Set
Parent
as the Parent ID.
- Set
- Click Next, choose the location in the database where the import should occur, and specify the name of the main topic.
- Click Import, then OK.
Result:
The imported data will now appear in Mavim Manager with the correct parent/child hierarchy.
