Overview - Edit Fields
From the Modelling tab on the ribbon you can access the Edit Fields function which allows you to modify the values of multiple fields for multiple topics using a grid interface.
To make use of this feature, follow these steps:
1. Select the topic or branch for which you wish to change the fields
2. Switch to the Modelling tab in the ribbon
3. Under Overview, select Edit Fields:
4. Now you will need to select which Field Sets have been assigned to the selected topic and any child topics. Only these field sets will appear in the Edit Fields window:
Notice that for the 3 child topics at the bottom, no fields are available for editing as the selected field sets are not assigned to them.
5. Now you can click the cells of the field values you wish to change. In the above example the field values are based on dates and therefore have a drop down. You can click the drop down to expose a standard Windows date picker.
6. With these values you can now use the toolbar at the top of the window to fill in any other field values:
From left to right these buttons are:
Select FIeld Sets - Change the field sets you wish to use with the Edit Fields function.
Only Show Rows without Assigned Fields - Shows the topics that do not have any fields assigned.
Only Show Columns without Assigned Fields - Shows the field sets that are not assigned to the topics.
Only Show Columns and Rows without assigned Fields - Shows a combination of rows and columns with unassigned fields.
Only Show Rows with Assigned Fields - Shows the topics that have fields assigned.
Only Show Columns with Assigned Fields - Shows the field sets that have been assigned to the topics.
Only Show Columns and Rows with Assigned Fields - Shows a combination of rows and columns with assigned fields.
The final tool at your disposal for narrowing down the topics and fields you want to work with in the Edit Fields screen is the ability to remove columns from the results. Essentially you are taking fields out of the equation. Simply grab the column header and drag it down until you see a large X appear. Release the mouse button and the column will be removed from the results.
Also note that this feature allows you to adjust the value of multiple fields at once. With the Edit Fields screen open and the needed field sets selected, press Ctrl + A to select all topics. now when you make a change to a field value, any topics that have that field will also be given the same value.
