Overview - Free Shapes

If you want to add information to a Visio chart without a corresponding topic in Mavim, you can create a Free Shape. A Free Shape is unconnected to any of the other shapes in the chart, and can be used to add a text to the chart.

To create a Free Shape, you must follow these steps:

1. Either drag a new shape from the stencil onto the drawing, or delete any connecting relationships between the shape you want to free and other shapes. You cannot use shapes that reflect a type of relationship (such as Who, Where, Why). These will disappear when they are not connected to another shape in the chart.

2. Select Free Shape from the context menu. The shape is now free. You can drag it to anywhere in the drawing, make it any size, or add any type of text. It will not create consistency problems when saving the chart or creating a version (for more information about chart consistency, see: Inconsistent Chart).
