Overview - Generic Chart - Importing Generic Charts

It is possible to import Generic Charts in Mavim Manager. In some cases, these charts could have originally been created using Mavim Manager and Visio resulting in topics in Mavim Manager being connected to Generic Charts. The chart was then exported from Visio to be used elsewhere. In this section we will be looking at the options available if a chart is imported back into the Mavim database it was created in.

1. From the Modelling ribbon, select Import > Visio Drawing.

2. Select the desired Visio drawing and click Open.

3. Select the destination topic. This is where the chart will be imported to.

4. When Visio opens, you will see a screen allowing you to select what type of chart is to be imported. Select Generic Chart and click OK.

5. You will see the following confirmation screen:

6. You will need to make a choice here:

Yes - Any shapes in the drawing that were previously connected to a Topic in Mavim Manager will retain their connection to the same Topic in the database.
No - The shapes in the drawing will not be connected to Topics in the Mavim Manager database.

1. If you choose Yes, the following screen will appear:

2. Notice that the "Retain existing Mavim Manager connections in Visio drawing" option will be enabled. Click OK to continue.

3. If you choose No, the following screen will appear:

4. Notice that the "Retain existing Mavim Manager connections in Visio drawing" option will be disabled. Click OK to continue.

Note: It is important to note here that once you click the Save button in Visio, it will no longer be possible to change the "Retain existing Mavim Manager connections in Visio drawing" option. As long as you have not saved, you can open the context menu of the Visio drawing and select Options. This will allow you to change the option in the event you made a mistake during the import.

If you have retained the connections you will notice that clicking on any connected shape will result in that topic being selected in Mavim Manager to indicate that the shape and the topic are indeed connected.
