Steps to format table borders
- Click inside the table you want to format.
- Right-click and select Table Properties.
- In the dialog window, go to the Border and Shading tab.
- Choose your preferred border style:
- Solid, dashed, dotted, etc.
- Apply to all cells or specific sides.
- Confirm your changes by clicking OK.
Note: If a table has no borders, it may not be visible in the Description screen. Turning on gridlines or adding borders resolves this.
Steps to apply shading to table cells
- In the Table Properties window, switch to the Shading tab.
- Use the color drop-down menu to select a shading color.
- Apply the shading to:
- Individual cells
- Entire rows or columns
- The whole table
- Click OK to apply.
Important notes
- Borders and shading help make tables easier to read and visually distinct.
- Gridlines may be turned off by default. If your table appears invisible, check border settings or enable gridlines.
- These formatting options apply to both newly inserted and existing tables.
