Create a custom visio stencil Question: Is it possible to include your own -- KA-01502

Question:

Is it possible to include your own shapes in a Visio stencil?

Anwser:

In the Mavim Manager; in the ribbon go to the Administration tab - New Visio Stencil – Cross Function Flowchart; enter a Stencil name and click OK

Next; go to the Administration tab - Edit Visio Stencil.
Select the new stencil you just created under Visio Cross Functional Flowchart Stencils.

Select in the Stencil e.g. the Who [Who] shape and click on the Alternatives button

Now open a stencil (.vssx) containing the desired shape (or create one from your local Visio environment first); select in that stencil the desired shape and click Add

The Shape is now added to the stencil; select it by clicking on it and choose Edit; in the drawing board the Shape will appear; right click on it and choose Shape format:

Give the shape the desired 'Look'.

Click on the cross to close the edit:

The message below will appear:

Click Yes

The shape has now been modified; select it again and click on Properties
Give the shape a name and select it as Default (the name cannot be the same as an already existing shape; if you would like to keep the name the same as the original shape then check Default first and change the name after the original shape is deleted).

Click OK

Because the original Who [Who] is now no longer standard; that shape can be deleted by selecting it and clicking Delete:

Click OK and the change in the stencil has been made.

When you now create a Cross Function Flowchart based on the modified stencil:

For existing Charts; you can switch stencils by opening the Chart and clicking the right mouse button in the drawing area.
Choose Options:

Select the custom stencil and click OK
