How to: importing a visio chart

Mavim contains a feature that allows you to import existing charts and create topics from it. Follow these steps to import an existing Visio chart.

Create a Topic in the tree that will be serve as the parent topic for the chart you will be importing.
With the newly created topic select; switch to the Modelling tab on the ribbon.
Select the Import drop-down followed by Visio Drawing.
Select the drawing you want to import.
Select the destination for the import. The topic you created should already be selected.
Click Select.
Visio will now open next to Mavim and you have the opportunity to select which chart type to import as. Make your selection and click OK.

Depending on the type of chart you have chosen; the steps from here will vary.

Generic Chart:

Select Create corresponding topics and relationships in Mavim Manager to create topic in Mavim based on the shapes in the Visio drawing.
Select which Topic type is to be used for the shapes in the Visio drawing.
For each connector you can select which relationship is used.
If possible; you can also select to import relationship characteristics.
Click OK to continue the import.
When you click OK; nothing will have changed in Mavim. You will need to Save the Visio drawing before the changes are made in Mavim. Do so now by clicking the Save button.
You will now see the topics appear in Mavim and the import is now complete. A relationship is added to the parent topic you created previously which can be used to reopen this Visio drawing.

Flow chart:

Select Flow chart and also select (if needed) to import the relationship characteristics.
Now Save the chart to make the changes in Mavim.

Hierarchical chart:

Select Hierarchical chart and click OK.
Now select the shape that is to be classified as the starting point. Simply click on the desire shape and click OK.
The topics are automatically created in Mavim.
Save the chart
