Manager - import excel with parentid

Question: We would like to import an Excel file with a parent/child relationship into the Mavim Manager; is that possible?

Answer:
This is possible; when an Excel import is done in the Manager; a wizard appears where there is the possibility to use a field as "Parent-ID"; so you must first set this up correctly in the Excel file
As an example; we take the document below:


In the Manager; the column ‘Job title’ must appear as a topic name under the main topics listed under 'Department name' .
To do this; the following must be added in the Excel file; first of all; the main topics names must be placed under the column ‘Job title’ so that we can use that column as topic name and then an extra column must be added (in this example 'Parent' but this column can be given any desired name) in which is referred to the column ‘ID’; to set up under which Parent the topic in question will be placed:



This Excel file can then be imported as follows:
Upload the file to the Mavim Manger environment and go to Modeling – Import - Excel in the Mavim Manager



Click on the button with the dots


Navigate to the uploaded Excel file:

Select the file and click Open

Click Next

Click Next
Select the Columns that you would like to return as a Field; in this example the columns ‘ID‘ (only needed for the import) ‘Job title’ (will be set as the topic name) and ‘Parent’ (will be set as Parent ID) are not required as a field; so they will not be selected:


In the following screen you can select which columns should be used for the topic name and Parent ID (optionally a column can also  be used as Description but that is not used in this example so it will not be selected):
Select ‘Job title’ as the Subject name  and 'Parent' as the Parent ID

Click Next; navigate to the location where the import is to be performed; and specify a name of the main topic under which the topics will be placed.

Click Import

Click OK
Now the import is complete and you will see the following in the manager:
