Portal - edit long url link Question: When we link a long URL it -- KA-01570
Question:
When we link a long URL it will be shown in its entirety after publication; can we shorten the URL display without removing this link?
Answer:
In the example below; a URL is linked:
When published to the Portal; this URL will be displayed under 'Documents' as follows:
You can make the link more manageable in one of the following ways
1) Place a hyperlink in the Mavim Manager from another description window to the element to which the relevant external file is linked;
by right-clicking in the description window and choosing 'Insert hyperlink'
In the 'Edit hyperlink' window that appears; you can place a checkmark at the bottom for 'Text hyperlink editable'
and enter a desired name below it (this will be the name of the hyperlink).
If you do not check this box; the hyperlink will automatically be given the name of the element to which the respective external file is linked.
If this hyperlink is clicked on the Portal; the URL will be opened immediately (and you will no longer be directed to the element itself).
2) If it is necessary to access the element itself; you can create a hyperlink to itself on the relevant element in the Mavim Manager.
You will then see the hyperlink in the description window and when you click it; the relevant document will also be opened.
Now you can login to the Portal as Administrator and then on the General tab behind 'Layout Description'
remove the options 'Title Documents' and 'Documents'. (Note this applies to all publications).
After this adjustment; the entire URL is no longer visible; but you can still open the URL by clicking on the previously created hyperlink.
3) A quick way to make hyperlinks more presentable is to use external websites that can generate a shortened hyperlink; such as via https://www.urlshort.dev/ (when you search for shorten hyperlink in google; you will get several options with which this is possible).
Here you enter the target URL and choose 'shorten' after which you will receive a shortened link that you can use in the Mavim Manager. (For long hyperlinks in fields; this can be a good alternative).
