Portal - open file url Question: When a link is clicked from the -- KA-01411
Question:
When a link is clicked from the portal; the next message appears: SEC7134: Resource xx.docx cannot be loaded
Answer:
The browser prevents files from being opened from a local environment; see the following on how to adjust this per browser:
In the Mavim Manager; it is possible to create a network link to a file.
These will be listed in the publication to a Mavim Portal as file:// URL.
An error message may occur when opening such a link;
(SEC7134: Resource file:///z:/temp/test.docx may not be loaded).
This is due to security reasons. The browser prevents files from being opened from a local environment.
To stop this error message from reappearing; you can perform the following steps for each browser:
IE and Edge
For these browsers; you can add the Mavim Portal site to the 'trusted sites.'
To do so:
Go to the Internet options;
Select the Security tab
Choose Trusted sites
Click on the Sites button
In the dialog box “Add this website to the zone:” Add the Mavim Portal URL.
Click on Close; then Apply.
From now on; the file:// URLs will be opened when published to a Mavim Portal.
Google Chrome
This browser blocks file:// URLs by default. However; there is an extension available that allows the file:// URLs to be opened. This must be installed within the browser for all Chrome users.
This Add-on can be installed via: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enable-local-file-links/nikfmfgobenbhmocjaaboihbeocackld
Firefox
The same goes for Firefox as Chrome. Again; you need to install an extension (add-on). This add-on is called "Local Filesystem links." It can be installed in Firefox via https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/local-filesystem-links/
After the installation of the add-on; the web extension software must also be installed on the workstation:
https://github.com/AWolf81/webextension_local_filesystem_links-native-host-binaries/raw/master/win32/native-app-setup.exe
Edge Chromium
This is the latest development of the Microsoft Edge browser. By default; it is also not possible to start the file:// URL.
There is no specific Edge Chromium extension available yet. When it is available; it will be available in the Edge extension store.
https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/category/Edge-Extensions?hl=en-US
Because Chromium is used; it is also possible to install a Chrome extension. Open Edge Chromium and go to the Chrome Web Store.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions
Edge then displays a banner in the upper part of the browser:
Click on Allow expansions from other stores.
Click on Allow.
You will now see the following at the top of the screen:
Search within the Chrome web store for "enable local file links" and click on Add to Chrome.
Next; choose Add extension.
You will get the following message:

Note: All extensions mentioned in the document were not created by Mavim and therefore no support can be provided for them.
