How moving or copying topics affects field sets and inheritance

Target audience

Administrators and advanced users managing topics and field sets in Mavim.

Purpose

This article explains what happens to field sets when you move or copy topics in the Topics screen, and how inheritance status changes.

Key concepts

  • Field sets move with topics: If you move a topic that has field sets, those field sets move too, regardless of how they were assigned.
  • Inheritance changes: If the topic inherited field sets from above, its inheritance status will change after moving.

Moving topics with field sets

  • When you move a topic that has the status Inherited from above, the field sets move with the topic.
  • The inheritance status changes to Topic, meaning the field sets are now directly assigned to the topic.

Copying topics

  • Copying a topic works the same way as moving.
  • The topic is copied along with its field sets and the contents of those fields.

Moving topics into a hierarchy with inheritance

  • If you move or create a topic inside a hierarchy that uses field set inheritance, the topic automatically inherits those field sets.

Important notes

  • Requires administrator privileges.
  • Always verify inheritance settings after moving or copying topics.
  • Cutting or copying does not duplicate inheritance rules; only the fields and their values are copied.
