How to create and manage custom icons for topics
Target audience
Administrators and users who want to customize topic icons in Mavim.
Purpose
This article explains how to add your own icons for topics, edit or replace them, and apply them to topic types that allow custom icons.
Prerequisites
- Access to the Administration tab.
- Image files in one of the supported formats: GIF, JPG, JPEG, JPE, BMP, PNG, ICO.
Key details
- The application automatically resizes any image to 16 x 16 pixels, 32-bit .PNG format.
- For best results, use an image that is already 16 x 16 pixels, 32-bit .PNG.
- Custom icons can only be applied to topic types that do not have a predefined icon.
Steps to add your own icon
- Go to the Administration tab and select Create Icon.
- In the window that opens, browse to the location of the image file you want to use.
- The image will be resized to 16 x 16 pixels and saved under Objects > Icons folder.
- The icon will appear with a frame in the folder, but the frame is not shown when applied to a topic.
- Apply the icon to the desired topics:
- Go to Topic Properties and select the icon.
Edit or replace an icon
You can edit or replace the image of an icon you created.

Important notes
- Icons are automatically resized, but starting with the correct size ensures better quality.
- Only topic types without a predefined icon can use custom icons.
