How to create nesting in Visio (Archimate)

In Visio, you may want to nest one shape inside another. For example, placing “Consult document” within “Reservation facility.” This can be done easily with built-in nesting functions.

Create nesting with drag and drop

  • Hold down ALT while dragging a shape onto another shape.

  • The shapes will become nested.

  • Use the same action to remove nesting later if needed.

Create nesting from the stencil

  • Drag a shape directly from the Visio stencil onto another shape in your diagram.

  • The shape will automatically be nested inside the target shape.
