How to make MP4 videos available in the portal

If you attach an MP4 video file in Mavim Manager (either as an internal or external file), you may find that it cannot be opened from the portal. This is related to how the portal processes video files.

Why MP4 files don’t open in the portal

When a video is requested from the portal, it is first loaded into memory. If the file size is larger than 20 MB, the video may consume too much memory, which can cause an out of memory error.

How to make videos available

To ensure videos play correctly, host them on a video platform and link to them from the portal:

  • Upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo.

  • Copy the link to the hosted video.

  • In Mavim Manager, create a hyperlink in the description window or link the element directly to the video URL.

Users will then be able to open and play the video directly from the portal without running into memory issues.

Summary

  • Directly attaching MP4 files larger than 20 MB will not work in the portal.

  • Use platforms like YouTube or Vimeo to host videos.

  • Link to the hosted video from Mavim Manager for seamless playback in the portal.
