How to use the simulation module in Mavim
Target audience
Users who want to analyze and simulate processes in Mavim using flowcharts or cross-functional flowcharts.
Purpose
This article explains how to start and use the simulation module in Mavim to calculate process costs, time, and decision probabilities, and how to export results for reporting.
Overview
The simulation module in Mavim allows you to simulate processes visually in Flowchart or Cross Function Flowchart mode. You can assign attributes like Cost (in Euro or other currencies) or Time (in hours) to process steps. You can also define decision probabilities to understand how often a process takes a certain path.
Simulation results can be summarized and exported to Microsoft Excel for reporting.
Prerequisites
- A flowchart or cross-functional flowchart created in Mavim.
- Attributes (e.g., cost, time) defined for process steps.
Steps to start the simulation module
Option 1: From Mavim
- Open Mavim and go to the Modelling ribbon tab.
- Click Analyse.
- Select:
- Start Simulation Flow Chart for a standard flowchart.
- Start Simulation Cross Function Flowchart for a cross-functional flowchart.
- The chart will open in Visio with the simulation module activated.
Option 2: From Visio
- Open your flowchart or cross-functional flowchart in Visio.
- Right-click anywhere on the drawing.
- Select Simulation from the context menu.
- The simulation module will start.
Tips for better usability
- Maximize the Visio window for easier navigation.
- Drag and drop the simulation module to the right side of the chart for better visibility.
Next steps
- Learn how to set up attributes and decision probabilities: [Create Simulation].
- Export simulation results to Excel for reporting.
Important notes
- Ensure all process steps have relevant attributes assigned before running the simulation.
- Decision probabilities should reflect realistic process behavior for accurate results.
