- Right column: The value of each field.
If the Fields screen is not visible, activate it via Layout > Application group. See also User Interface.
How to enter field values
- Click in the column to the right of the field name you want to edit.
- Enter the value.
- Press ENTER on your keyboard.
Special situations in field name and field value columns
-
Field value
<empty>
If you see<empty>in the field value column, the field has not been defined yet. A field that appears empty actually contains a text of zero characters. -
*beside field name
A star indicates a mandatory field. When creating a version, mandatory fields are checked for content. If any are empty, they must be completed before the version can be created. See Create Version. -
Field value is a dropdown list
Some fields allow multiple values. This must be defined in the field set properties. See Set Field Properties. -
Field value visible but cannot be altered
This occurs when the Read Only property is activated. See Set Field Properties.
Important notes
- No history is kept of entered values. Previous values cannot be viewed.
Modifying a field value
Right-click the field to open the context menu. You have two options:
- Edit value: Modify or replace the existing value.
- Back to default: Reset the field to its initial value, as defined in Default value in field administration. See Set Field Properties.
Multiple values and multiple languages
- The number of values for each language is the same.
- Removing a value in one language removes it in all languages. A warning appears before deletion.
- Adding a new value gives other languages an empty value.
Hyperlink fields
Some fields may display a URL. To view it:
- Right-click the field value (URL).
- Select Show.
- A screen appears where you can see the URL and copy it to your clipboard. This is useful when the field value is based on a parameterized URL.
